About Us
Aloha, Hello, こんにちは!
We are Kris and Mike Leong – two engineers who met in college, fell in love, caught the travel bug, and eventually tied the knot. Welcome to our blog, Leong Voyage!
Mike and I are blessed to call Hawaiʻi our home. Growing up on the beautiful island Oʻahu has deepened our connection to mother nature and allowed us to experience the aloha spirit shared by our community. Living on an island also meant that we were surrounded by water, and that any trip meant a 5+ hour plane ride. But somehow that just added to the excitement to our overseas adventures.
Some of our favorite activities involve working out at the gym, playing sports for fun (current favorites are volleyball and tennis) and chilling at the beach with our dog. Mike grew up playing basketball and volleyball. I, Kris, grew up playing soccer from K-12. We also love swimming and paddling, although we don’t do either as much. Other than sports, we also enjoy spending time in the kitchen. Cooking, baking, eating…we absolutely love it all.
One more thing we both love, if you haven’t realized yet, is traveling! Our shared passion for exploring the world grew from the many trips we’ve taken with our families, the diversity of cultures we have in Hawaiʻi, and the fresh perspectives on life that we gain after every journey. Mike and I mainly traveled within the US throughout our childhoods, but got hooked on international travel after graduating college.
Of all the places we’ve been, we often find ourselves going back to a country we’ve fallen in love with. Its rich culture, delicious food, and serene landscapes always takes us back. Can you guess where…? Yup, it’s Japan! Whether it’s cycling along Kyoto’s Kamo River, indulging in seafood at Sapporo’s Nijo Market, or soaking in an outdoor onsen between the Gifu mountains, we are always seeking new adventures and ways to connect with the places we visit.
Through this blog, we hope to share tips, stories, and inspiration for our friends, families, and all fellow travelers planning their own journeys around the world, especially Japan and Hawaii. We hope you enjoy and Bon (Leong) Voyage! 🙂
